Yah, we were winners! We're stoked to have Pūriri Hideaway win a 2025 Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Local Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Award. It was a big moment for Woven Architects to win our first Architecture Award, and what an awesome little project to do it with. Thank you for everyone who has supported along the way, and a big thank you to our wonderful Clients who made it possible.
Judges citation:
"The Pūriri Hideaway is a deceptively clever example of the architect transforming the tight site constraints into a positive to inform and enhance the design. For example, utilising three levels to stay under a height-to-boundary plane but retaining simple, clean lines.
The retreat captures a calm bush oasis feel and outlook, even though the location is very close to neighbours and the main home. Keeping three established pūriri trees also informed the design positively and enhanced the space, connecting it to nature via views and strategic placement of skylights.
Pūriri Hideaway is indeed as its name says - a very well-considered, calming and spacious retreat."
